Requirements

Thieving-icon.png 30 Thieving
Attack-icon.png Ability to defeat a level 75 foe (can be safespotted)

Items Needed

700gp.png Around 800 coins This should cover all the purchases during the quest if you do not have any items whatsoever. Bring more if you are going to be using Flying Carpets (200 coins per trip)
gloves.png Gloves Plain leather gloves will work, some gloves like Slayer Gloves will not so just get a normal pair of gloves to be safe.
waterskin.png Desert protection Desert Clothing and a waterskin if you won't be using carpets. You can buy these from Shantay for 130 coins total
Attack-icon.png Combat gear Gear to kill a level 75 non-Ali foe (ideally ranged)

Starting the Quest

Speak to Ali Morrisane, east of the gem vendor in Al-Kebab Kharid. You should know that every time you go through dialogue with Ali Morrisane, he will sell you a random piece of junk for 10 coins.
Ask the greatest salesman in the world about why he's selling from a simple stall. Respond to his woes with 'I'd like to help you but…' and he will ask you to fetch his nephew Ali from Pollnivneach, promising you the first month of his salary as a reward.

Capitalism, ho!

Before you leave, buy a Karidian headpiece and Fake beard for 1 coin each from Ali Morrisane. Combine them to make a Desert disguise.
Run south to Shantay pass and grab your combat gear from the bank chest. If you don't have any waterskins with you and won't be using flying carpets, purchase a full Desert Outfit, a waterskin and a Shantay pass for 135 coins total from Shantay. Go through the pass and head southeast, past the Desert Mining camp until you arrive to the greatest village ever. You'll soon see someone called Ali - in fact, you will see several Alis, since everyone in here is called Ali. It's time to find the correct one.

Head to the bar in the southeastern part of the village and have a chat with Ali the Barman to buy 3 beers for 6 coins. Talk to Drunken Ali sitting in the bar and give him the beers, exhausting his dialogue. It seems the nephew got into trouble with the feuding gangs in town. Find a random generic Menaphite Thug just west of the bar and ask him about the feud. Afterwards, go to the northern part of town and find a generic Bandit and ask him about the feud as well.
You'll get pretty much the same response - someone from the opposite gang stole a camel. You will deduce that you need to gift both of the gangs a camel in order to find out more about the nephew.

Shield of Arrav Camel of Ali

There's a camel store in town just northwest of the bar, run by Ali the Camel Man. Ask him about the two camels outside and offer 500 coins to buy a pair. Talk to any of the Bandits and Menaphite Thugs to find out your effort was in vain. Your character wll consider joining the gangs to solve this issue. The Bandits aren't interested in talking to you so head down to the Menaphite tent at the southern edge of town and talk to Ali the Operator. In order to join the Menaphites, he will ask you to go rob a few people.

  • For the first one, just find any generic villager and pickpocket them.
  • For the second one, talk to the Street urchin standing just next to the bar. He will distract a villager for you. Pickpocket the villager and then talk to the urchin again. Be nice, give him 10 coins and he'll tell you a bit more about the town and some of the villagers involved
    • If you're having trouble with the urchin, "Lure" a villager first to have them follow you then tell the urchin to distract the villager allowing you to pickpocket the villager.
  • For the third one, go back to Ali the Operator and ask him for some help. He'll give you a blackjack. Lure a villager to an empty house, knock them out and proceed to pick their pockets.

Once you're done with that, return to Ali the Operator. You're graduating from picking people's pockets to burglary. Put on your gloves and Desert Disguise (combined Karidian headpiece and Fake Beard), then head to the Mayor's house next to the bar. Click on the cactus just outside to hide behind it, then go in when the game tells you it's safe.

Climb up to the first floor and check the picture next to the bed. The combination is arranged in a circular pattern. It's the beginning of the Fibonacci sequence - 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, going clockwise. Grab the jewels and head back to Ali the Operator, who will ask you to find the traitor.

Snake in the sand

Talking to any Menaphite Thug just outside the tent reveals that the traitor is Traitorous Ali. One wonders who in their right mind recruits someone called Traitorous Ali, but the Menaphites hardly seem like the brightest of the desert people. Go back to Ali the Operator, who will demand that you snuff him out. Back in the bar, Ali the barman will reveal that Traitorous Ali has nipped out for a trip to the loo and will be back in a spell. He has conveniently left his beer outside, so let's try to find some poison. Ali the hag (Actually called Alice!), whose house is on the hill will happily hand you a horrible poison to dispose of Traitorous Ali.

The first thing you need to bring her is a snake. Find Ali the Snake charmer behind the bar and drop a gold coin in his basket. He'll give you a flute, which you should use (not Play, Use) on a desert snake just outside Ali the Operator's tent. Once you capture the snake, bring it back to Ali the Hag.

The second ingredient is some camel dung. For this, we need Ali the Kebab seller (just northwest of the fountain). His red hot kebab sauce, which he will provide to you for free if you talk to him about it is the perfect tool for the next disgusting step of this devious plan. Grab a bucket from Ali the Camel seller's tent and then use the red hot sauce on the trough outside. Wait for the poor camel to shit itself, then use the bucket on the dung. You want some Ugthanki dung.
While you're here, grab another 3 buckets and get 3 more buckets of Ugthanki dung. Save it for My Arm's Big Adventure.
Bring the dung back to Ali the Hag. Use the poison she gives you on the beer that's on the table back in the bar, then head back to Ali the Operator. Apparently, you've caught the eye of the Menaphite boss himself, so head out. Before you know it, your character will be pissed off. A level 75 Tough Guy will spawn and try to kill you (you can safespot him over any clutter in the Menaphite tent). Once he's dead, the boss will teleport away and leave you and crestfallen Ali the Operator behind. From now on, talking to any Menaphite Thugs will make them hostile to you.

Getting rid of the other losers

After you're done dealing with the Menaphites, you might think the ingrates living in this town would appreciate someone sticking it to the man. Sadly, any generic Villager will tell you otherwise. You now also need to dispose of the idiot Bandits. Find the Bandit leader next to the POH portal at the northwestern edge of the town. He'll summon another level 70 idiot, who hits quite accurately for his level. Safespot him over any clutter nearby and then talk to the villagers, who will get even angrier with you. Find the mayor, have a chat with him, then get the hell out of Pollnivneach cause this place sucks.

Go back to Al Kharid and chat with Ali Morrisane. It turns out he has rused you more than a fair bit. Enjoy the last thing he sells you.
