Temple Trekking

Introduction

Temple Trekking and it's cousin, Burgh de Rott Ramble, are minigames where you escort a traveller through the dangerous swamps of Mort Myre. You are given the choice to escort three types of travelling companions, distinguished by the color of the capes they wear, along three paths of increasing difficulty. You can start from either Paterdomus, the temple west of Canifis (Kharyll teleport or fairy ring CKS) or from Burgh de Rott (fairy ring BKR then run southeast to the swamp boaty). The difficulties are as follows:

  • Blue cape: 3 monsters will spawn per encounter, and the follower has higher defense.
  • Yellow cape: 4 monsters will spawn per encounter, and the follower has medium defense
  • Red cape: 5 monsters will spawn per encounter, and the follower has lower defense.

Always pick the red cape, since any follower that gets aggro'd is as good as dead regardless of defence, and more encounters means more rewards.

  • Path 1: low level monsters, and encounters can be evaded. Good for farming monster drops like the lumberjack outfit, but mediocre for reward tokens.
  • Path 2: mid level monsters that can easily kill your follower, and encounters can be evaded once you've killed off half. Best for farming reward tokens for stuff like bowstrings and watermelon seeds.
  • Path 3: high level monsters that can easily kill you or your follower. Good armor and weapons are required, and encounters cannot be evaded. Given the high failure rate and difficulty, this path is poor way to farm any of the trekking rewards - but if you REALLY wanna go balls to the wall, check out this guide.

You can help your companions survive by giving them 15 pieces of food to eat if they take damage. Lobsters from fishing and cakes from thieving are the easiest to obtain in bulk, although stews (warrior's guild), pies (cooking guild), bass/tuna (fishing/misc) and sweetcorn/chocolate cakes can also be gathered in decent amounts from around vscape.

The main reason to play Temple Trekking is of course for the rewards. Certain monsters drop useful items like nail beast nails, snake skins, and the Lumberjack Outfit, and at the end of each trek you will recieve a reward token which can be exchanged for a random reward (see below) at either Paterdomus or the Mort'ton bank.

Requirements:
In Aid of the Myreque
Darkness of Hallowvale (not needed until release)

Encounters:

There are two types of encounters which can be either a monster-killing task or a short puzzle. Each trek may have 0-7 of these encounters, and the size of your reward will scale by the numbers of monsters you kill and tasks you complete.

Monster Encounters

Many monster encounters can and will curb-stomp your follower as soon as they spawn, so always keep a ranged weapon equipped to draw their aggro first and a DDS to shred any of the ones you miss. Snakes, Shades, and Snails are especially notorious for ending trips early. Remember this is a dangerous activity, and if you die here all your unprotected items will be lost.

Puzzle encounters:

There are stony paths around the edge of each area leading away from the instance. Right clicking these stones will either allow you to evade the instance (if it's an evasion path), or continue your trek. If the follower dies, you will be marooned out in the middle of Mort Myre swamp and have to walk/teleport out.

Gear:

  • Weapons: Crybows, darts, and knives help to draw aggro away from a follower. Failing that, a DDS or chins can be used for quick kills. Whips, crystal bow, and/or a rune cbow are good for dealing damage in general.
  • Armor: D'hide, proselyte, or rune armor all work. Shield slot can be a defender, god book, or shield.
  • Other: Druid pouch, woodcutting axe, a knife, silver weapons, and a snail helm (use chisel on snail shell) are needed for certain encounters. Home teleports (for the altar and Kharyll portal), or a 1-click safety teleport are recommended.

Rewards:

At the end of each trek, you will be rewarded with a reward token that can be exchanged for a random reward at either the Mort'ton bank, or with Hiylik Myna in front of Paterdomus. Rewards are as follows:

  • Silver bars (several dozen)
  • Experience tomes (several thousand xp in a random skill)
  • Watermelon seeds (several dozen) (this is the real reason you're here)
  • Bowstrings (several hundred)
  • Toadflax/tarromin/harralander (several dozen)
  • Raw lobsters (several dozen)
  • Iron ore and coal (several dozen)
  • Pure essence (dozens/hundreds)

No, you can't choose which one you get. OSRS only :^)
