Barbarian Training

Complete Requirements & Getting Started

Head to the top Baxtorian Falls, and on the west side you'll find a hut where Otto Godblessed is located. Speak to him, and after some dialogue he will offer to train you in Barbarian skills, expansions on the regular skills.

Barbarian Firemaking

Bow Firemaking

Requirements

  • Level 35 Firemaking
  • Oak Logs
  • A normal short or long bow (Made of regular wood, up to magic wood. The type you can fletch)

Ask Otto to share some of his Firemaking wisdom with you, and he'll teach you about lighting fires without the use of a tinderbox. Exit dialogue with him, and then use your bow on some Oak logs to light a fire. Speak to Otto again about Firemaking, congratulations you can now light logs on fire with bows! (Not terribly useful)

Logs Firemaking Level Firemaking XP
Logs 21 90.000
Achey 21 90.000
Oak 35 135.000
Willow 50 202.500
Teak 55 236.250
Arctic Pine 62 281.250
Maple 65 303.750
Mahogany 70 354.375
Yew 80 455.625
Magic 95 683.550

Pyre Ships

Requirements

Recommended

  • High Combat Level
  • Ability to defeat Level 132 enemies
  • Ability to defend against Mithril Dragons (Level 304)
  • A Games Necklace (To teleport back to the Barbarian Outpost, the cave has no easy exit)

Barbarian Fishing

Heavy rod Fishing

Requirements

Ask Otto about fishing rod methods and he should eventually allow you to take a Barbarian rod from under his bed. You can always take another from under his bed if you ever lose it.

Once you use the Barbarian rod on a fishing spot at Baxtorian Falls and have caught a leaping fish, you have completed Heavy rod Fishing. Only fish caught at Baxtorian Falls with a Barbarian rod will be leaping fish (see the below table).
You can gut a leaping fish by using a knife on the fish, though sometimes this can fail, which happens more often on the lower level fish and with lower cooking levels. This will produce some Cooking XP, Roe or Caviar, and possibly some fish offcuts. At about level 60 cooking and 70+ fishing, you get about 1 bait item for each fish, on average with RNG variation, allowing near self-sustaining fishing.

Fish Product Fishing Level Required Strength & Agility Level Required Fishing XP Strength & Agility XP
Leaping Trout Roe 48 15 112.5 11.25
Leaping Salmon Roe 58 30 157.5 13.50
Leaping Sturgeon Caviar 70 45 180.0 15.75

The only fish you should care to keep are the Leaping Sturgeon/their Caviar. Leaping Salmon and Trout should be cut open for their roe and offcuts, which can also be used as bait.
The order that baits are used are offcuts > fishing bait > feathers > roe > caviar. If you want to use eggs as bait, you'll need to drop the offcuts stack first and pray you don't get randomed.

There are large jumps in experience rates when you unlock salmon and sturgeon. Trout only is comparable/worse compared to normal fly-fishing.
Barbarian fishing is meta-efficient overall, as doing it for a while at the beginning of your account can allow you to skip the low level agility training and give you strength experience.
At 90 Fishing, you can expect around 85k Fishing XP/hr and 8.5k XP/hr in Strength & Agility.

Barehanded Fishing

Requirements

Ask Otto about his knowledge on harpoons. He'll tell you about barehanded fishing; head over to a spot where you can normally Harpoon a fish (Catherby shore, Fishing Guild, Karamja as examples). Click on the harpoon spot and your character should then "harpoon" the tile, just without the need of an actual harpoon. Congratulations, you can now fish Barehanded.

Fish Fishing Level Required Strength Level Required Fishing XP Strength XP
Tuna 55 35 180.0 18.00
Swordfish 70 50 225.0 22.50
Shark 96 76 247.5 24.75

Barehanded should be just as fast as regular harpoon fishing, with some bonuses being Strength XP and an extra inventory spot (No need to carry a harpoon). You DO need to meet the higher fishing level requirement compared to harpoon fishing, and a Strength level requirement to achieve this.

Barbarian Smithing

Requirements

  • Barbarian Firemaking: Bow firemaking
  • Level 5 Smithing
  • A hammer
  • 2 metal bars and two corresponding logs (See the table below)

You'll need to create a spear and a hasta to complete this section. Look at the table below and bring two metal bars and two of the corresponding logs to create both a spear and hasta (Bring two Bronze bars and two normal logs for example).
Speak to Otto about Barbarian smithing. If he mentions something about you not having smithed a spear, go to the anvil by his hut and create a spear on it.
Speak to Otto after creating a spear, and he will teach you how to create hasta. Head back to the anvil by Otto's hut and create a hasta on it. Speak to Otto again to finish Barbarian Smithing training! You can similarly apply weapon poison to hasta if that sounds neat to you.
You'll need to use this specific Barbarian anvil outside of his hut to create spears and hasta.

Spear / Hasta Logs Required Smithing Level Required Smithing XP
Bronze Normal Logs 5 56.25
Iron Oak Logs 20 112.50
Steel Willow Logs 35 168.75
Mithril Maple Logs 55 225.00
Adamant Yew Logs 75 281.25
Rune Magic Logs 90 337.50

Barbarian Herblore

Requirements

  • Barbarian Fishing: Heavy rod fishing
  • Level 4 Herblore
  • A 2 dose Attack potion in your inventory
  • Some roe in your inventory, or a knife to get roe from a fish

If you didn't already, catch either a leaping trout or salmon from a fishing spot outside of Otto's hut using a Barbarian rod, and some bait or feathers. The use a knife on the leaping trout or salmon to obtain some roe.

Speak to Otto and ask him about some Herblore knowledge, he'll tell you to combine a two dose Attack potion (Not a super attack potion) with some roe. Stop speaking to Otto, make sure to right click on either the Attack potion (2) or roe and combine it with the other ingredient to make an Attack mix. Speak to Otto again about Herblore for him to take the Attack mix from you.
Congratulations, you can now create potion mixes!

See the Barbarian Herblore section at the bottom of the Herblore skill page for information on mixes available in vscape.
